What's in a name, Sweetie!?!

I so love being called 'sweetie'!!! Now that is a sentence that if you had asked me a few months I would have told you where to go, and even a few weeks ago I might have found my self struggling with accepting being called it! But as I move towards femininity I can understand the charm and respect the word holds.

It does of course help that one of my best friends in the whole word insists on using the word towards me and when I hear it now it almost feels like a warm cuddle!! And there are not many words you can say that about. That's why I was surprised on the stink that was kicked up on the US election trail yesterday by the use of the word.

This from BBC News:

Obama sorry for 'sweetie' comment

Barack Obama, candidate for the Democratic Party's nomination to run for US president, has apologised to a reporter for calling her "sweetie".

Reporter Peggy Agar, of the WXYZ television network in Michigan, had shouted a question as Mr Obama toured a Chrysler car plant in Detroit.

Mr Obama said: "Hold on one second, sweetie" and did not answer.
He later left a message for Ms Agar saying it was a "bad habit" and he "meant no disrespect".

Ms Agar told the Detroit News: "I've been called worse."

The full story and a video of the incident is at:

I just wondered if any other girls struggle with being called 'sweetie' or do they accept and enjoy it as I now do?

Indeed like the cat in this video, which funnily enough is called 'Sweetie', I almost 'Purr' when a fellow TS girl calls me it!

It depends upon who is speaking to me, and what tone of voice they are using.

That being said, Barack Obama can call me sweetie all day long if he likes.

I completely agree with Nicole. It's all about context and tone of voice. If I detect any superiority or demeaning/condescending attitude - then I'm not a happy camper.

Living in the South, I hear such words as "sweetie," "sweetheart," and "honey" frequently--especially from waitresses in restaurants when I'm in male mode. But I remember one time being called sweetie by the woman working the cash register in a gay bar, and this had a different tone to it. I was feeling very feminine at the time, in a short skirt and heels, glossy lipstick and maybe a little heavy on the mascara and eye shadow. I believe my cheeks might have turned a shade of red deeper than my blusher when this woman called me sweetie. To be sure, I liked it.

I totally enjoyed it when the cashier at Walmart called me sweety. Even though I was in male drab, I was at the checkout in my T-shirt and shorts, my mop artfully combed over my eye as best I could. I had helped dislodged the coffee maker box, and helped her find the can of Copenhagen for another customer at another register when she thanked me with :sweetie: I shrugged it off as a Texas thing until we got to my--erm--replacement panties at the end, when she remarked on my selection, saying that she liked the style of one, and didn't like the cut of the other as it was too much like a thong to her, pantomiming the riding up motion.

It made me feel so good to have a woman-to-woman talk for once, and I wasn't even trying that hard to be feminine.
